As I type this, the wife is laying on the couch covered in her beloved red blanket. On the television is the movie “Rumor Has It” staring Jennifer Anniston. It is part of the “All About Anniston” marathon–”an all day Lifetime event.”
Can you hear me throwing up?
As Jennifer Anniston is controlling the television programming at the moment, I am missing what I can only imagine are exciting, thrilling, engaging College Football Bowl Games. New Years Day is always the biggest bowl game day of the year. Sacrificed at the altar of this project today are: The Gator Bowl pitting the evil West Virginia University against Florida State University. This game is significant not only because it is a loss for WVU, but because it is the last game ever coached by the legendary Bobby Bowden of FSU. In fact, the Gator Bowl, pulling on sentimental heart-strings, made special arrangements for FSU to be in this game allowing Bowden to coach his last game in the state of Florida (this is at the expense of my team, Pitt, who should have been in this game instead of FSU). I’m not an FSU fan at all, but I have always enjoyed watching them play. FSU has always been an entertaining team to watch capable of putting a ton of points on the board quickly. Bobby Bowden, their 125 yr old coach, is an icon. And I just missed his last game–a win against WVU in the Gator Bowl.
Also sacrificed at the altar of this project: The Capital One Bowl–Penn State vs Louisiana State. Two traditional powers slugging it out. The Big 10 vs. the SEC. Power vs Speed, #13 vs #12…a classic match-up…and I missed it. Looking at ESPN.com I see that Penn St. won by 2 points in what I can only assume was a thriller.
Also sacrificed today: The Outback Bowl featuring two teams I don’t care about at all, Northwestern and Auburn. But this was an overtime bowl game that supposedly featured trick plays. Those are fun.
Is the Rose Bowl next in line? Probably so. After all, the “All About Anniston” marathon is an “all day Lifetime event.” And the wife just said, “I love this movie!” This could be a long year…
